UL MARKS

Most Appleton products are listed or classified by Underwriters Laboratories. Independent, non-profit, Underwriters Laboratories Inc. have been one of the electrical industry's leading product safety testing and certification organizations for over a century. Every year, more than 17 billion UL Marks are applied to products worldwide.

The UL Mark signifies that Underwriters Laboratories have tested and evaluated representative samples of a product and determined that they meet industry requirements.

Here are definitions of the most commonly used marks:

If a product carries this mark, it means that samples of the product have met UL's safety requirements, which are primarily based on UL's own published Standards of Safety. When this mark is accompanied by a "C," it designates that the product has been tested and evaluated to appropriate Canadian safety standards. UL Listing is the industry's most widely recognized mark.

Products carrying this mark have been evaluated for specific properties, a limited range of hazards, or suitability for use under limited or special conditions. Typically, these products fall into the general categories of building materials and industrial equipment. UL also classifies products to the standards of other national and international organizations, such as NFPA, ASTM, NSF, ISO and IEC.

This mark is used on component parts used as part of a larger product or system, and is found on a wide range of products. These components may have restrictions on their performance or may be incomplete in construction.
